Week 12!!!!

1. What is a Web page? What purpose do hyperlinks have on a Web page? What is Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)? A Web page is something that someone creates on the Internet. Hyperlink also called link lets people navigate from one website to another. HTML is a special code that defines the placement and format of text, graphics, video and sound on a Web page.

2. Explain the process of streaming over the Web. How are streaming audio and streaming video similar? How can streaming be used by teachers and/or students? Streaming video and audio is when a piece of video or audio is transmitted over the Internet in an even and continous so that they can be downloaded to a computer. Teachers and students can stream when they want to download a video about something they are learning.

3. What is a firewall? What is filtering software? What is an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)? Why is the use of firewalls, filtering software, and AUPs so important for K-12 networks? A firewall is used when something needs to be blocked from a network. For example, at my school they have firewalls on many sites to "protect" students. They might put a firewall on games or chat sessions. I think that they are good because it might prevent students and teachers from entering sites that are inappropriate.

4. What is a search tool? Name the two basic types of search tools and describe how each of these works. Which would you use to search for links in the category, Education? A search tool is a website that is used for someone to go into and quickly type something in and get a result. One very popular search tool is google all you do is type in a word and thousands of websites come up for you to search. Another popular website is yahoo. On this website, you can search anything you want.
