A firewall is used when something needs to be blocked from a network. For example, at my school they have firewalls on many sites to "protect" students. Week 10 Blog!!!!
1. Define System Software. What operating system do you use? I use Macintosh Operating System (MAC OS X) System software is programs that control the operations of the computer and its devices. I use windows XP and I LOVE it!!!
2. Define user interface. What is a graphical user interface? Describe some common features of both the Windows and Macintosh graphical user interface. User interface controls how anybody enters data or instructions and how information is presented on the screen. The graphical interface combines text, graphics and other visual cues to make software easier to use. SOme of the common graphical user interface that Windows and Macintosh have is software packages. This includes Microsoft word.
3. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of using Note Taking Software. eSome of the advantages with note taking software includes: handwrite notes, draw sketches, type text, send hand written emails. Some of the disadvantages may include the students not having the experience in writing. Some kids these days need that experience.
4. What is productivity software? Name and describe five different types of productivity software used by K-12 teachers. Provide an example of how productivity software may be used to increase learning within the classroom? Prodeuctivity software is software designed to make people more effective and efficient while proforming daily activities. 5 types are: word processing in which a teacher can use to make a report, spreadsheets in which a teacher can use to put in grades, database in which a teacher can use to put in a unit lesson, presentation graphics in which a teacher can use to present an activity using pictures to present the information, and personal information management in which a teacher can use for storing their personal information such as address books, appointment calendars, and notepads. Whith the use of productivity software a teacher can become more organized in their classrooms, they can also be more organized in their personal work life.
5. Review the “Graphics/Multimedia Software” and “Software for School Use” (p. 159-166). Do you have experience in using any of these software programs with your students? If so, share your experience(s). If not, how do you believe these software programs may enhance student learning? There were many different software programs presented in this chapter. When I was in the classroom I would use the publisher software. As a class we would create a newsletter for our parents. Whith the newsletter, we would keep parents informed about what is going on in our classroom with a fun and imaginative way. Students loved creating their own articles about what activities are coming up in our classroom. We would also use the publisher software to create flyers for our fall carnival.

Week 8 Blog
1) Briefly describe why digital media and educational software applications are important for education. I think that these applications are good because of the instruction that the students are learning. Without the students not being in King Tuts tomb, they can visit it without leaving their seats in school. And now with LCD televisions, the pictures are clearer than ever.
2) Name four media components of digital media software. Briefly describe each.
1. Text- this is the role of building multimedia
2. Graphics- are the pictures drawings, ect. of multimedia
3. Animation- great illustrations or pictures of objects.
4. Audio- Provides the sound of the media software.
3) What are the differences between an electronic reference text and a how-to guide? Which one is used more often in education? Why?Electronic reference text uses graphics, sounds, animations, and video to explain a topic while a how-to guide teaches you s step-by-step instructions to learning a new skill. Electronic reference text is used mostly in school because it explains a topic, although a how-to guide should be used more because it provides students with an opportunity to be creative.
4) What is virtual reality? How do teachers, students, and others use virtual reality? Is virtual reality available on the Web?
Virtual reality is a real life feeling of an artifical enviornment. Teachers can use this to create a feeling to students like they are in a certain place and time. Yes they are available online for students and people to experience.

Week 6 Blog
1. -What is a rubric? A rubric is a detailed scoring guide for assessment based on stated criteria. -Review the following "rubric creating" website: http://rubistar.4teachers.org/ This website is wonderful! Any teacher can go on there and create an account and they can create their own rubric based on what they are looking for. - Why should teachers use rubrics? Teachers should use rubrics when grading on a project. Teachers should present the rubric to the students before they being their projects so they can understand what the teacher wants out of that project. When can teachers use this website and/or rubrics? Teachers can use this website for any rubric they need to create.
2. -Should teachers evaluate Web resources for instructional value in the same way they evaluate print resources? Yes they should. Why or why not? They should because technology is changing every minute. Having the students rely on the Web can be useful for their future.
3. -Review the Web Site Evaluation Rubric on page 403. Choose any educational website and use the Web Site Evaluation Rubric (p. 403) to evaluate its educational value.
Title: US Judicial Process

4. -Review the technology-based lessons on pages 420-434. All the technology based lessons are really great. They offer students with different technology and software in which they can utilize in their presentations.
- Reflect and comment on the following statement: "To be successful in integrating technology, teachers must rethink and redesign activities and create new teaching and learning strategies as they actively integrate technology across their curriculum." I think that this statement is true. Teachers need to keep up with the fast paced technology skills that students are learning either by themselves or at home.
